Emily Page Art

I remember that the first ballet I ever saw was my great-aunt Ruth Page’s Chicago Ballet production of The Nutcracker. From that moment on, I was hooked. I wanted to be a ballerina like her and my grandmother, who danced with Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn, and who took me to Jacob’s Pillow to watch dance classes and performances every summer. Unfortunately, I was cursed with terrible knees at a young age, and had to give up my dream of dancing. I discovered, however, that I did have a talent for painting. And when my grandmother died a few years ago, I was looking for a way to feel reconnected to her. I began doing paintings of dancers and fell in love with dance all over again. And while I can’t dance myself, I am constantly challenging myself to capture the movement and spirit of dance; to recreate the mood of a performance on a piece of canvas. Here are some samples of my work. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
